The 2018 NC Bike/Walk Summit is being held at the Convention Center in Raleigh on October 19-20, 2018!! This year’s Summit promises to be packed full of information useful to bicycle advocates, transportation planners, business owners, elected officials, tactical urbanists, public health practitioners, and livability and sustainability professionals. Experts from across the state and beyond will be on hand to share their knowledge and experience.
To encourage safe cycling and to promote positive interactions between bicyclists and drivers, local riders, bike clubs and various organizations will be hosting the CAPITAL AREA RIDE for SAFETY (CARS) again this year on September 23, 2018. Join us this year for a new, dynamic and interactive ride and experience to be held at Dix Park, as CARS 2018 partners with City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department. There will be fully supported rides including 30 mile (50K), 60 mile (100k) and Greenway rides. There will also be a kid’s bicycle rodeo, music, food, and some inspiring guest speakers. For more information and to register, please go to www.carsride.org.
BikeWalk NC is extremely pleased to announce Terry Lansdell as its new Executive Director. He will assume responsibilities June 25.
Terry comes to BikeWalk NC from Clean Air Carolina where he held several positions, most recently that of Public Policy Manager. His background uniquely qualifies him to lead BikeWalkNC. In addition to his work with Clean Air Carolina, Terry has extensive experience with non-profits, including work with both Trips for Kids and the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. Terry’s work to advance sustainability is well known and was recognized by Sustain Charlotte in 2015 when he received their Outstanding Leader Award. His experience with large-scale event planning as well as grant writing will be invaluable to BikeWalk NC as we continue to grow as an organization. Terry’s background with bicycle advocacy is substantial, and his passion for both sustainable transportation and a cleaner environment made him the ideal person for the job. Terry is also an accomplished distance cyclist who has competed in four solo Race Across America events (RAAM), the Race Across the West on a fixed gear bicycle and holds the UMCA state record for North Carolina.
We will have more about this exciting news in our next newsletter. For now, please join us in welcoming Terry to BikeWalk NC and working with him to make North Carolina a great place for walking and biking.
