How the data is grouped (methodology & assumptions)
  • KSI = crashes coded “A: Suspected Serious Injury” or “K: Killed.”
  • Darkness = any light condition other than “Daylight” (dark, dusk, dawn, unknown).
  • Speed limit ranges fold in both banded values (e.g. “30 – 35 MPH”) and bare numbers (e.g. “35”); a handful of odd values like 21 or 32 map to their nearest band. Records with unknown speed are excluded when a specific band is chosen.
  • Age: 524 records list age 0 and a few list ages over 100 — treated here as unknown, not as infants/centenarians, so they’re excluded when a specific age band is chosen.
  • Grouped view: Junction = types containing Turn, Crossing Paths, Drive Out, or Ride Out; Motorist Overtaking = the single type “Motorist Overtaking Bicyclist”; Other = everything else.
